Should my 22 year old daughter with autism contact someone she wronged many times to ask for forgiveness?
In the past my 22 year autistic daughter Alexandra wronged someone who was a tutor named Margaret in her high school. She phone her Margaret at her home when she was still in grade 12. Alexandra also phone Margaret at her job after she graduated from high school and she phone the school board to get in contact with Margaret and said something was wrong with Margaret's daughter and her fromer tutor was quite livid and upset. When Alexandra tried to have a friendship with Margaret she lied about being homosexual to impress Margaret.Alexandra and Margaret didn't see each other for a while because of Alexandra phoning Margaret at weird times. Then Alexandra contact Margaret on facebook and they seemed to get along ok. But when Alexandra contacted Margaret's niece without her permission Margaret said " Please don't contact me or any of my friends or family members." Margaret and Alexandra haven't contacted each other in 2 years. Alexandra has gone through major therapy and has changed alot. She is part of catholic church. Her church counselor says Alexandra should forgive herself since Alexandra has become a better person in the last years and she also thinks she owes Margaret a major apology by letter for how she wronged her. Should my daughter apologize to her former tutor because her church counselor told too?
Is adhd connected with autism?
my daughter has had an assessment they said it looks like she has adhd and am waiting for an adhd assessment. they also did a questionnaire about social behaviour said her score was above average but that there was no cause for concern. I didn't understand fully what they meant as i'd thought they were totally different things thanks for all answers
I would like to know how many families in my area with autism what do you think the reason for the rise.?
i would like to see how many girls v.s. boys with autism and what is your thought of why we have so much autism in our world now days. is it genetics, environment, immunizations, prenatal folic acid deficiency.my daughter is autistic and is 21 now. i also have three boys and none have autism. she was born with it. i knew something was wrong right away. she has went from very severe and withdrawn, unloving,no appetite and many other things to a girl that can show love, very attentive, loves food, all with out drugs and and therapies. she was unteachable but she now shows she understands a lot. the major part is she used to babble like a baby now she tries to put sounds into words. autism went from 1 in 10,000 to 1 in 110 in twenty years. it is very amazing that when we understood what she wanted she changed. many years of trying to understand autism when nobody else knew what it was and didn't understand how to teach about it. my belief is that it might be in our water supply. what do you think? oh i live in elkhart, indiana
Would being a Psychologist or Psychiatrist be better for working with kids with autism?
My girlfriend wants to work with kids with autism as her profession and is looking at becoming a Psychologist but I was curious if being a Psychiatrist would be better. I am going to school to be a Pediatric Neurologist because I would like to work with kids with autism and Tourette syndrome I have TS so we want to work as a team she isn't really interested in becoming a Neurologist . Which profession would be the best for her to work with children with autism?
Will a 2 1/2 yr old child who is behind in speech and is generally happy be diagnosed with autism or PDD-NOS?
He walks on his toes a lot, also looks at his hands in the air often. He knows all the letters, numbers, colors and shapes, can repeat words and a couple songs echoalic speech but does not communicate his wants needs such as " want milk" but will whine instead.Social Security already determined our son to be disabled, but he will not receive any SSI due to combined family income. I asked what is his diagnosis and they said it is not clear in the report. I signed a request for a copy to be sent to our pediatrician. SS appointed a speech pathologist and a child psychologist, both with a Master's Degree to evaluate him. Cincinnati Children's Hospital will do a more thorough, detailed evaluation but with the waiting list, that will be in another 2 3 months. The child psychologist said PDD NOS to me but in the report according to SS she ruled that out and I don't know why until I see the report. The question I am asking is mostly posed to parents of children with the same symptoms I have described above. Thank you.

Should you offer people with autism tips to improve, or encourage their unusual habits?
Obviously in EITHER case it's about accepting them and showing them support so don't freak out. For instance, if you notice something they do that is very odd socially, should you kindly suggest doing something else in such situations, or should you " speak their language" and be random and awkward yourself so they feel more at home?
I have 2 brothers and a sister with autism, will my future kids get it too?
I'm the only one out of all my siblings who doesn't have autism they have learning difficulties, do not understand very much, have difficulty socialising. And one of them doesn't even know how to speak a language. Apparently they are all autistic but they've all got slightly different problems to one another. Anyway I was wondering are the chances pretty high if I have a kid and they get these sorts of problems too? I'm not planning on it anytime soon as I'm 19, but I'd like to know out of curiosity. I plan to adopt mostly but I'd like to have at least one child that is biologically mine, at least, but I won't if the chances are high that they will come out mentally handicapped. Now that I think about it... How can it be genetic? My dad's side's fathers were all doctors and my mother's side fathers were navy officers or worked in parliament. My grandmother developed dementia as she got older but that has nothing to do with autism I believe. Before that she was a very cultured and talented woman. My cousins are all intelligent people with great professions too. I need a better explanation.
