I have OCD, am i more likely to have an autistic child? SERIOUS QUESTION?
I have OCD and I think it is pretty common in my family. My OCD is kind of bad, but not really noticable to other people. My mom and some of my cousins seem to have traces of it, but non of them are diagnosed like i am. My parents say that i got it from my grandma. Also, my cousin has severe autism. I am responsible for taking care of him and now i am terrified that my 'future' children with have autism. The worst part about it is that i worry about this and i am only 17. i know i will not have children for like 10 years, but my OCD wont allow me to get this fear out of my mind. is there a good chance that i will have an autistic child since i carry the OCD gene? thanks.
Is the number of autistic children going up or has it always been about the same?
I was born in the late fifties, and I know there was a lot of children born with defects due to thalidamide and women not taking vitamins, but to me it seems as if everywhere I look I am hearing about more and more children with autism, like my nephews who were conceived invitro and I wonder if that had something to do with it or maybe because the mother was almost 40?
Dealing with an autistic child?
Ok, so I will usually head to work with my mom at the day care she works for. I m under 18, so I don't technically work there, I just help out. Except, there's an autistic child. None of the other kids like him, mostly because he pushed them when he come up to them can't really blame them... So, how should I help? The kids are 3 to 4, and please don't say, let an adult deal with it, I want to help him, mental disabilities can be dealt with right? So if you have an autistic child, friend, or family member, how do you deal? Oh, and the principal of the school is aware. This child deserves a chance, don't we all?

Risk of having another autistic child?
Hello, I am so confused at the moment. Recently we just find out that my 18 month old was autistic. My husband has 2 normal kids in his first marriage and this is my first child w him. We love our son but it breaks our heart to see him in his condition although there are some help available we decided to give him up for adoption due to a lot of reasons. My husband doesn't want to keep him because he said he can't stand to see him suffer while other normal kids can go on w a life. Even he learn to communicate and speak a little bit his condition is still permanent and can't be undone. My question is what is the risk of us having another autistic child because I have done some reading through internet and it seems in a family, there is more than one autistic child, its just scares me a lot and I am worried so much, because if its that the case I just wouldn't have another baby. Is there anything that we can do to prevent it from happenning again? My husband and my family doesn't have a person w that condition that's why we are at lost about this, although our age difference is 18 yrs gap. I am also aware that we can't have any test to determine if the baby will have autism or not. Can someone shed the light for us pls? Also we're still so depressed about what happened, being away from my son kills me alot and think about him day by day.

Does anyone know anything about the GFCF(gluten free casein free) diet and why it helps autistic children?
My son is almost 3 and is autistic. He has been having problems going poop for about 1 1 2 months. He has an appointment to GI specialist, but it's not until May 14, 2010. He has all the symptoms of someone who has an intolerance to gluten except diarrhea. I have been reading about the GFCF diet and how it can help with autism and some of these GI problems my son has. The diet is so restrictive , I feel like he can't eat anything. Is there anyone who has an autistic child and does NOT have their child on a GFCF diet? If so, has your child progressed in his her speech and social skills? Also, I would like to hear from the parents how do have their child on a GFCF diet, and the results of it. Thanks everyone, I really could use any valuable information on food and autism.real answers please, and this is a special diet, not for weight loss.
